How to Attract the Film Industry to Your Community
Ever wondered why do movie producers pick a certain town to shoot in?
Would you like to follow in the footsteps of one small B.C. town that has generated millions into their local economy over the past few years by becoming "film friendly."
It's no secret that film production companies drop a lot of money in a short space of time in any community that they are shooting in and this is always extremely profitable to local merchants.
Are you wishing you had the knowledge to bring the film business to your area??
Well, now you can have that knowledge and everything you need to know to to attract the film industry it is all right here in my seminar:
How to Attract the Film Industry to Your Community
I will show you how your area can capitalize on the flow of film business away from Hollywood. Western Canada's film business is booming and due to some good tax incentives more and more projects are being shot in smaller areas of our provinces. With the right knowledge, your community can be getting its share of those dollars being spent.
You'll learn it all from:
- Why and how one small Canadian town has consistently generated huge revenues from having the film business return year after year.
- How to identify your town's unique qualities that film producers are looking for.
- How you can contact film producers with an irresistible argument that simply must lure film scouts to your community.
Included in this 90 dynamic presentation is a short but powerful seminar on:
How to Get a Great Promotional Video
This is a great seminar to find out about the steps to follow to have a great promotional video created for your area Which can certainly help with tourism? (incidentally I wrote the definitive book on this subject The Video Bible) which you can purchase from this website. I figure that if I am going to be in your town, why not take advantage of my knowledge and get a good bang for your buck with the 1,2 package.
I have spent more than 20 years in the film industry. I have produced, photographed and directed more than 60 films, videos, commercials, documentaries and educational films. Through Victoria Motion Picture School we have trained Hundreds of students who now make a good living in the film industry. I know this business.
In addition I will provide a second seminar on...
How to Get in and Succeed in the Film Business
This is a fabulous information packed seminar for highschool or college students wanting the real scoop on working in film. The lifestyle, the pay scales, skills needed etc.
In Thompson Manitoba I delivered similar package..."How to Get in and Succeed in the Film Business" at the local high school, "How to Get a Great Corporate Video" for Thompson's Mayor and Council, and an evening dinner seminar for The Thompson Chamber of Commerce on "How to Attract the Film Industry to Your Community".
....Here's how I helped Thompson:
Hi Barry. Thank you so much for all you did in Thompson. We asked a lot of you and you delivered more than we asked. We truly appreciate your work ethic, your humour, you candidness and your ability to mix with any crowd. I could hardly sleep last night, I had all kinds of ideas going through my head for promoting Thompson. Your presentation to the school not only explained a variety of career possibilities, but may also foster an expanded program at the school. Another serendipity of your talk at the school is the potential for first-time relationship between the school and the Thompson Chamber of Commerce. Relationships such as this are invaluable to building new futures for communities such our ours. But one of the most exciting outcomes of your visit is that you attracted the interest of some of our risk takers and creative thinkers. Barry we were hoping you would plant seeds for us and you did. But you also opened doors for many people. You certainly surpassed all our expectations. Thanks so much for all you've done.
Penny Byer, Vice-President
Thompson Chamber of Commerce.

Manager of Community Economic Development
Kicking Horse County - Golden and Area
There is an accepted multiplier factor that is used to calculate the benefits of motion picture shooting in any given area. That factor is 3 - 1. For every dollar spent in production of a film in your area, the economic impact is substantial. Imagine what just one major production could do for your community.
Your town can even be reaping the benefits to tourism long after the filmmakers have left, through billboards announcing that such and such a movie was shot here. A number of small towns have been successfully using the technique for years to lure tourists to stop by and your town can do the same. This is just one of the numerous ways that your area can increase tourism and you'll many more ideas from my seminar on attracting the film industry.
